Remove Negative Self Talk & Practise More Self-Love

18 Feb 2018, Quite often we are the harshest critic of ourselves. Putting pressure on ourselves to be a better person, lose weight or just keep up with the latest fads and social media posts on Facebook or Instragam – the grass can sometimes look really green on the other side, and we can often get caught up comparing ourselves with others, without really knowing the bigger picture.

Sometimes negative self-talk can really get in the way of our goals, both in fitness and other areas of our life too. Negative self-talk can really hold us back from achieving success so here’s a few thoughts about how we can overcome this.

I often hear people talking harshly about themselves – particularly when it comes to weight loss and even more so when it’s post-baby weight loss. The pressure to look good from either society and/or family and friends can feel insurmountable at times – especially if we are feeling hormonal with a lack of sleep! So the next time you find you are passing harsh judgment on yourself i want you to ask yourself…. Is this something that I would say to my friends? The thing is, you would probably never dream of saying some of the negative things you say to yourself to your friends. And it really is self-sabotage, which can hinder your goals and potential for achievements.

So talk to yourself like you are talking to your very best friend – and be supportive of yourself, just like you would be to that best friend.

Find some positive mantra’s to repeat to yourself when you find yourself slipping into that negative self-talk.

Practise Self Love – Slow down and find ways to relax, a nice cup of tea, a good book, listen to music, your favourite podcast, long walk, stretch or an early nights sleep. Treat yourself to something that you love to do! And build yourself back up to that positive state of being. The point is to find ways to support yourself, reduce stress and take time out for you. Find your happy place. For some of you this might even be your workout.

Whatever it is, find ways to be kind to yourself and maximise your overall goals and state of well being. And most of all… keep smiling!

Best wishes & happiness always, Di xo
