Sticking to New Years Resolutions

8 Jan 2018, The New Year is now here and many of us have probably made a few New Years Resolutions, but what is the best way to stick to them?

If you have lots of resolutions, start with implementing just 1 of those for at least 14-28 days. Trying to implement everything at once can be really overwhelming and very challenging to stick to after a few days have passed, and this is where a lot of people set themselves up for failure. So start with just one – the most important one! It usually takes about 28 days to form a habit and by starting with just 1 things at a time, you can concentrate on this one things wholly and not get distracted by trying to make too many changes in your life at once.

If you have one big resolution – try breaking it down into smaller pieces and implement each piece at a time. For example if your goal is weight loss, and it’s a large number, break it down into what you need to do to reach the final number. Try eating better first. Then implement your fitness plan. If the eating plan is a huge part for you, then break that down into smaller pieces – like reducing sugar, removing fizzy drinks, eating a healthy breakfast every day, drinking enough water or adding vegetables to every meal at dinner time. Try and implement one of those things first…. master it, and then add the next one.

It usually takes about 28 days to form a habit, but if you are disciplined you could try 14 days before adding the next change to move closer towards your goal.

Just remember, one step at a time is the best way to achieve success with your resolutions.

Best wishes and happiness always, Di xo
