You Can’t Outrun a Bad Diet – Be Prepared

29 Oct 2017, It’s a common saying and whether you believe it or not, it’s certainly something that I live by ‘ You can’t outrun or out-exercise a bad diet’. I’m not a calorie or Micro/Macro nutrient counter, but I am a massive believer in eating healthy 80-90% of the time and exercising regularly so I can enjoy a treat now and then.

Here’s a basic analogy to help you understand….

You could probably eat a 1000 calorie hamburger in around 10-15minutes. But to burn this level of calories off, it’s going to take most people at least an hour or more of intense exercise!

I find that most people know what’s good and bad for them. It just takes a bit of planning and preparation to make sure you are reaching for the good foods, rather than opting for the bad stuff.

Here’s my advice to ensure you are reaching for the good stuff:

1/Ensure that your fridge and pantry are re-stocked before the start of every working week with all the good stuff

2/Plan out your meals for the week so you are not figuring out what to cook or grab at the last minute

3/Cook up meals in advance and freeze them so you can just grab on the go for the days when you are just too busy to cook

4/Avoid bringing home those bad foods and snacks…. and that way you won’t be tempted to eat them

5/Prepare and portion out your snacks so you can keep them handy – this way you are always reaching for good snacks and not tempted by bad snacking habits

On top of this, make sure you are getting plenty of water – 2-3l per day, and more on intense exercise days or extreme hot weather days. Sometimes thirst can be mistaken for hunger, so always reach for your water bottle first.

I hope you find these tips handy to get your nutrition in check. Sensible nutrition in line with regular exercise leads to strong healthy living.

Enjoy and best wishes always, Di xo
